FRD developed a playful and stimulating exhibition identity for Sweet Addiction, with a focus on vibrant colours, bold typography and an easy to follow graphic hierarchy.
Inspiration was drawn from the focus of the exhibition: cacao. The colour palette was developed from the various ripening stages of the cacao pod and was used to group thematic areas together. The form of the pod was then used to express interesting fast-facts dispersed throughout the space, and swing-tags to display plant species on botanic hooks throughout.
A range of illustrations and icons in a simple vector style visually expressed written information and appealed to a wide audience. Beautiful botanic illustrations already in the Royal Botanic Gardens collection were repurposed as monochromatic glass panel motifs of various opacities, creating a subtle visual barrier between the exhibition space and the rest of the Calyx building.
