Into the Blue (the Blue Mountains World Heritage Exhibition) features a high-tech interactive exhibition exploring the natural and social landscape of the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. Visitors navigate their way through an immersive exhibition experience that introduces them to the richness and beauty of the mountains. The space is dominated by film sequences of the landscape as it changes through the seasons and is impacted by the forces of nature.
The first stage undertaken by FRD included a six-month community consultation, development of an interpretive plan and the design of the experience. Limitations of space and technology meant rigorous planning was needed to maximise the multimedia effect. With such a small floor area, all the joinery elements became a jigsaw puzzle, taking into consideration access, lighting, thematic links and multimedia screens.
